Desecration of Muslim graves was religiously motivated'
Briefly

On April 13, police reported damage to 85 grave plaques in Carpenders Park Lawn Cemetery, specifically in the Muslim burial section. This act has elicited distress within the Brent Muslim community, particularly affecting markers for babies and children. As the investigation progressed, Hertfordshire police confirmed the act was motivated by religious hatred. Chief Superintendent Jon Simpson emphasized the commitment to treating it seriously, while local leaders, including Cllr Muhammed Butt, expressed their condolences to the grieving families and condemned the act. The council plans to restore the damaged plaques post-investigation.
Hertfordshire police are investigating, and have confirmed that they are treating this as an Islamophobic hate crime, in which 85 Muslim graves were disgracefully targeted.
We would like to reassure those affected, and the wider Muslim community, that we are continuing to treat this crime extremely seriously.
