Colombia and Panama have failed to protect hundreds of thousands of migrants and asylum seekers crossing the dangerous Darien Gap route, including addressing sexual violence.
Regardless of the reason for their journey, migrants and asylum seekers deserve basic safety and human rights protections while crossing the perilous Darien Gap.
More than 520,000 migrants and asylum seekers crossed the Darien Gap in 2023, double the total from the previous year, with the majority aiming to reach the United States.
