Police have arrested 24 individuals and charged 14 in connection to ongoing unrest following a protest in Ballymena related to serious criminal charges against two teenagers. The violence, which also spread to Larne and Belfast, involved serious attacks on property and communities, including immigrant families. However, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has reported a decrease in severe disturbances recently. They emphasize the importance of community engagement and parental support to prevent youth involvement in crime and further escalation of violence.
Successive nights of violence broke out following a peaceful protest in Ballymena last Monday evening, after two teenagers appeared in court charged with an alleged attempted rape of a young girl in the town.
Our heightened presence in our local communities and continued community engagement to de-escalate violence continued last night, but thankfully, the situation was much calmer than we have seen in recent days.
