Calif.'s newest national monument targeted by Texas group in lawsuit
Briefly

In January, President Biden designated Chuckwalla National Monument, enhancing protections for vast desert regions in Southern California. This move, celebrated by local tribal groups, environmental organizations, and governments, recognizes the area’s ecological and cultural significance that has persisted for generations. Local tribal leader Donald Medart Jr. emphasized the importance of preserving this land, not just for its wildlife but also for cultural transmission to future generations. However, concerns about the monument's future have arisen within months of its announcement, particularly regarding political support and development threats.
A lot of people drive on Interstate 10 and they see a desolate landscape, and it looks like nothing could survive out there, but this area has been life-sustaining since time immemorial.
I love taking my children out to this landscape, and looking at the evidence that was left by our people out in this desert region, and looking at trails and teaching my children about the history of our people.
