Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist and legal permanent resident, was released from ICE detention after over 100 days. He had been detained following his arrest at home in New York by federal agents, who sought his deportation despite his legal status. His wife, Noor Abdalla, was eight months pregnant during his detention and gave birth while he was incarcerated. Upon his release, Khalil expressed his desire to return to advocating for Palestinian rights, participating in rallies and protests, emphasizing his commitment to social justice.
"I just want to go back and continue the work I was already doing, advocating for Palestinian rights," Khalil said.
Khalil was seized by federal agents at his home in New York on March 8, with the Trump administration seeking to deport him even though he is a legal permanent resident.
Khalil's wife Noor Abdalla was eight months pregnant at the time of the arrest and gave birth to their son while he was jailed.
Khalil addressed over 1,000 supporters at a rally Sunday before leading a march to the gates of the school.
