Eugene "Big U" Henley, accused leader of the Crips, will remain incarcerated while facing serious charges including robbery, extortion, and murder. A federal judge emphasized the likelihood of Henley fleeing and posed a danger to community safety. Despite arguments for electronic monitoring and substantial property offers for bail from Henley's attorney, the judge highlighted serious past convictions. Henley, who has a criminal history and pleaded not guilty, faces 43 counts and is suspected of involvement in the murder of rapper Rayshawn Williams.
"There's no condition or combination of conditions that would reasonably assure Mr. Henley's future appearance at court proceedings or the safety of the community," Richlin said.
"You've got to give him a chance," said Hernandez, who has represented cartel members and - in the 1980s - serial killer Richard Ramirez.
