5 years since George Floyd murder, Black lives still matter DW 05/24/2025
Briefly

The iconic Black Lives Matter mural on 16th Street in Washington, D.C. was removed in March 2025 following threats from Congressional Republicans to cut federal funding. Despite this, Keyonna Jones, one of the original artists, expressed that the mural's legacy remains powerful. This removal evokes mixed emotions, highlighting the enduring impact of the movement sparked by George Floyd's murder. The initial creation of the mural represented a global call for justice, and even after its removal, the message continues to resonate with advocates for equality and reform.
