The Zipp Super-9 Disc wheel has been updated with wider tubeless rims that are hookless to reduce rolling resistance and a new dimple pattern for smoother airflow, resulting in faster speeds. Zipp conducted wind tunnel testing with 7 prototypes to optimize the wheel for speed, focusing on Total System Efficiency (TSE) principle for enhanced performance.
The new Super-9 Disc wheel features a stiffer carbon laminate, wider rim profile, and a more robust rim bead interface along with wider tires at lower pressures. This design philosophy of 'smoother is faster' aims to provide a faster and more efficient experience for riders, where rigidity is not the only factor in speed.
