World Cup Pit Crew Changes Rear Wheel Under Pressure
Briefly

Watch one mechanic perform a lightning-fast tire change at the Mairipora World Cup below. Nicole Koller rode into the pits with a flat tire, had a new wheel installed by her pit team, and was up and running in under 30 seconds.
This video exemplifies the importance of support in an XC race. Much like in a NASCAR pit, any tire change or other work on the bike needs to happen flawlessly and quickly.
Flat tires are far more likely on cross-country bikes. XC racers run very thin tires to save weight but are far more vulnerable to flats. It is a risk most are willing to take.
If a privateer without a mechanic had suffered a similar mechanical issue, their race would be over. Mechanics play a crucial role in ensuring the racers can continue without disruptions.
