"The mountain bike commission always considered mountain bikes as the laboratory of cycling with very limited rules regarding equipment. That is the reason why 32-inch wheels will not be banned in mountain bikes."
"32 is good to go. No restrictions on wheel size. MTB has always enjoyed the freedom of innovation. We have all benefitted from it."
The UCI will allow 32-inch wheels in mountain bike competition and will not ban them. Interest in 32-inch wheels surged after the Taipei Show when Maxxis displayed a production Aspen XC tire in the 32-inch size. Multiple production and prototype frames, handmade bikes, wheels, and components have been developed specifically for 32-inch wheels. Several frame manufacturers and XC racing teams have been observed testing 32-inch-wheeled bikes while others are designing and evaluating their own options. The mountain bike commission views mountain biking as a laboratory with limited equipment rules, and standard safety measures and certifications remain required.
