Schwalbe Says 32" Gravel Tires are Coming, But Not Until 2027

"While much of the discussion surrounding the 32" wheel size has centered around cross-country bikes and XCO World Cup racing, gravel bikes seem like one of the best and most obvious applications. But as far as we can tell, 32" gravel tires are even more rare, with most of the big-wheeled gravel bikes we've seen relying on the aforementioned mountain bike models."

This post informs us of the goings on in the Schwalbe Lab, as it relates to 32" tire testing and development. Of course, with the amount of hype that the 32" wheel size is currently getting, it seems quite obvious that Schwalbe would be hard at work on some tires. 32-inch wheel adoption is growing, but component and tire availability remain limiting factors across disciplines. Current commercially available 32" MTB tires include the Maxxis Aspen and Vee Tire Monster-T, with a Maxxis 32" Dissector appearing ready. Gravel applications present strong potential for 32" wheels, yet dedicated gravel tires in that size are scarce, often relying on MTB tread designs. Schwalbe is actively testing 32" tires in the Schwalbe LAB, performing extensive analysis and field testing to evaluate benefits and to develop gravel-specific options such as a G-One RX prototype.
