The unseasonably dreary conditions didn't stop about 30,000 cyclists from getting on two wheels and pedaling along the 40-mile course, which began in Manhattan, grazed the Bronx, returned to Manhattan, then traveled through Queens and Brooklyn before ending on Staten Island.
The tour, organized by Bike New York, has been held every year since 1977, supporting bicycle education programs and attracting participants who seek personal glory or are inspired by others.
Three friends from Queens embarked on the tour, expressing nervousness about their knees and the challenging Verrazzano Bridge incline, while another pair from Astoria were inspired to participate after witnessing last year's event.
