Paul Wright of Factor Racing triumphed at the New Zealand men's elite road race, launching a decisive attack from a leading group of four in Timaru. After 191.1km of racing, Ben Oliver took second place, finishing nine seconds behind, while 2021 champion George Bennett secured third. Wright expressed the significance of the victory, crediting his new self-coaching methods and previous performances for his confidence. After a dynamic race characterized by a series of climbs, his late surge proved pivotal for the win.
"This means a lot. I needed the win," said Wright in a statement from Cycling New Zealand.
"Today I knew I was good; I just needed some luck. Following George (Bennett) up the climbs a few times - he is one of the best climbers - I knew I had good legs."
