Visma-Lease a Bike demonstrated a powerful strategy in stage 6 of Paris-Nice by fully supporting race leader Matteo Jorgenson following Jonas Vingegaard's abandonment. With a decisive echelon attack 60km from the finish, they managed to form a lead group of 16 riders, effectively shedding rivals. Jorgenson's aggressive effort earned him a momentous time gain, expanding his overall lead. Despite the challenging weather, Jorgenson praised his team's commitment to their pre-race plan, transforming difficult conditions into a successful day for the team, particularly after adjusting their goals post-Vingegaard’s crash.
"I'm impressed with the guys today and our commitment and just following the plan that we made ourselves this morning," Jorgenson said.
"We looked at the course on the bus and made the plan. On a day like today, I knew we had the strongest team in the race for these kinds of conditions..."
"The plan was to take the descent of [the Côte de Baux-de-Provence] first, and then see if there was enough wind at the bottom where it was going to open up into crosswinds."
