Legendary Bike Brand Returns From the Dead - And Its New Trail Bike Leads the Way
"2025 is a year of highs and lows in the bike industry, and Nukeproof has been one of the brands that has seemingly seen more ups than downs. The legendary name has recently been sheltered under a new brand umbrella, and new life has been injected. Today, Nukeproof has unveiled a new trail bike, marking its return to bike development and seemingly picking up right where it left off."
"John Muenzenmeyer founded Nukeproof in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1990, to meet the growing demand for mountain biking during the 1990s. Nukeproof went on to produce some highly innovative bikes and components before a downturn in the bike market in 2004 led to Muenzenmeyer selling Nukeproof to Michael Cowan. After the brand changed hands, Nukeproof was relocated and reimagined in Belfast, in the North of Ireland, in 2007."
"Since the collapse of the brand, there have been murmurs and hints about the iconic MTB brand returning, and after being acquired by BCF earlier this year, we finally have a new bike from Nukeproof after a long hiatus (and a few rumors). The new Reactor V2 has been a long time coming, with a six-year gap between the V1 Reactor (below) and this new version, and we can thank the collapse of CRC and Wiggle for the delay."
Nukeproof was founded in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1990 to meet growing demand for mountain biking. The brand produced innovative bikes and components before a 2004 market downturn prompted founder John Muenzenmeyer to sell Nukeproof to Michael Cowan. Nukeproof was relocated and reimagined in Belfast in 2007 and became a major player in downhill and enduro racing with riders like Sam Hill and Ronan Dunne. Online retailers Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles collapsed in 2024, which caused Nukeproof to fail. BCF acquired Nukeproof earlier in 2025, and the company has launched the Reactor V2, a 140mm-travel trail bike after a six-year gap since the V1.
