Remco Evenepoel has disclosed the serious injuries he sustained from a December training crash, where he collided with a vehicle, resulting in a fractured shoulder blade, ribs, and hand. After months of recovery and training, Evenepoel is preparing for his first race of the 2025 season. While his shoulder remains painful due to unresolved nerve damage, he expresses confidence in competing, especially against rival Tadej PogaÄar, despite having contemplated retirement due to the severity of his injuries.
After a few weeks, we discovered a nerve injury and this one has not healed yet, so there's a part of my shoulder muscle that is not working at all for the moment.
Luckily, that muscle is not the most important one for cyclists. If I had been a tennis player or a basketball or volleyball player, my career would have been over.
