World champion Tadej Pogačar admitted to tactical errors in his season-opening race at the UAE Tour. Despite his strong form after a long break, he initiated the sprint prematurely, resulting in a tenth-place finish. Teammate Juan Sebastián Molano's crash further complicated their strategy. Although Pogačar believed he had good legs, he misjudged his timing, allowing rivals to overtake him in the final stretch. His performance reflected the challenges and unpredictability in competitive cycling, where even top contenders can face setbacks in crucial moments.
We were a bit unlucky with Sebas crashing... It didn't go as planned in the end in the final. But otherwise, we had good legs, we tried and it was a nice race.
It looked like I was still stuck in my lead-out idea because I went so early in the wind! 250 metres to finish, I exploded and everybody passed.
