Hatton reminisced about his early racing days, recalling how he and his father would arrive in a contractor van, feeling embarrassed about their simple tool kit, which consisted of just a chisel and hammer. "We used to show up to the race pits in a contractor van-I remember being so embarrassed. Our tool kit consisted of a chisel and hammer, I think," he laughed, emphasizing that despite the struggles, those tough times are where some of his best memories come from.
Atherton Racing’s legacy in talent development is immense, with Dan, Gee, and Rachel Atherton dominating the sport for two decades. Team director Dan Brown, who has guided the siblings since 2006, notes the importance of spotting and nurturing new talent. "Atherton Racing has long been known for developing talent... he has helped to spot new talent and assemble a support team that created the environment and provided the tools essential to succeed."
Both riders, Hatton and Kolb, showcased exceptional athleticism with diverse sports backgrounds. Kolb was a freestyle skier before transitioning to mountain biking, while Hatton excelled in rugby, football, and cricket before dedicating himself to downhill racing, proving their adaptability and competitive spirit. "Both riders are superb all-round athletes. Andi started out as a freestyle skier, and Charlie played rugby, football, and cricket before concentrating all his efforts on the downhill tracks... Their competitive natures and willingness to train hard made them a perfect fit for the Atherton team."
