The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in Geelong is bracing for extreme heat, with temperatures expected to hit 38°C on the final day of racing, following some respite in Adelaide's 37°C finale. The CPA, under President Adam Hansen, has prepared for potential extreme conditions. Race director Scott Sunderland reassured that appropriate measures, such as increased feeding zones every 10km in hotter areas, are in place to keep riders hydrated and maintained throughout the race despite the high heat.
Everything is looking very positive, and we're scoring very low scores as far as any risk or any impact, so it will be warm, but measures are in place.
We've got the feeding zones between every 30, 40 kilometres and when we come on the laps where it would be the warmest - obviously, being in the city - we have a feeding zone every 10 kilometres.
