A sophisticated international electric bike theft ring has been exposed, involving high-end bikes stolen from Silicon Valley and beyond, traced to Mexico. The perpetrators used tools like angle grinders and cordless screwdrivers, along with tracking bike riders on the Strava app.
Bikes stolen in the Bay Area were shipped to Jalisco, Mexico, and sold on a Facebook page named Constru-Bikes. Despite efforts, the black market Mexican seller continues its operations, showcasing stolen goods on Facebook.
Evidence collected by Bike Index, a platform tracking stolen bicycles, revealed that 'ConstruBikes' in Jalisco, Mexico, was selling bikes primarily sourced from the San Francisco Bay Area. The database contained stolen bikes linked to the operation.
