Cycling in southwestern Ireland illustrated differing experiences between using an e-bike versus a conventional bike. The author struggled to ascend a hill while observing his wife, who was on an e-bike, easily surpassing him. Although he reached the top after her, the struggle was significant. While some may label e-bike usage as 'cheating,' the essence of the trip was more about enjoying the experience and surroundings rather than just physical exertion. The trip aimed to engage with the environment rather than prioritize effort alone.
If the point of our Ireland cycling vacation was to expend maximum effort on physical activities while cycling around the southwestern Ireland countryside, using an e-bike would prevent you from achieving your objective.
...the gap felt enormous...I believe those French riders might've said something about 'cheating' by using an e-bike, but this is obviously a case where what is cheating is in the eye of the beholder.
