The BLM has seen a 25 percent reduction in appropriations for Recreation Resources Management since 2006, despite a 46 percent increase in visits to BLM lands. In fiscal year 2024, the BLM's recreation management account was funded at about $53 million, nearly $2 million less than the previous year.
The Forest Service experienced a 23 percent funding decrease in Recreation, Heritage, and Wilderness between 2010 and 2020, while recreational visits rose by 17 percent. The Recreation, Heritage, and Wilderness Fund received $45 million in 2024, a $10 million drop from fiscal year 2023.
