Dear Bike Industry: Thanks a Million
"All that being said, 2025 also marked my 30th Anniversary in the bike industry. So, I'm not going to write about Thanksgiving per se. Instead, I thought maybe I'd pen a thank-you note to the bike industry. You know, jot a few words down about the one thing that I am simultaneously grateful for and take for granted. I overlook my gratitude for this job every day."
"It was the first part of June 1995, to be exact, and I had just quit one and started another dead-end job. Two weeks into the new job, I already hated it. I called my dad for some advice, and he told me, "Find the one thing you love to do for fun, and work in that industry... you won't work a day in your life"."
2025 marked a 30th anniversary in the bike industry. The narrator values family Thanksgiving gatherings but chooses to write a thank-you to the bike industry instead. Career entry followed quitting a dead-end job in June 1995 and heeding a father's advice to work in what one loves. A brief early job stint felt unbearable, prompting the call that led to the decision to pursue the bicycle industry. A lifelong love of cycling, especially mountain biking, motivated the career shift. Starting at GT Bicycles in July introduced a surreal mix of fun, casual culture and serious work that shaped a life and trajectory.
