Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) has retracted his public lands sell-off provision from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, leading to celebrations from environmental and hunting organizations. The International Mountain Bicycling Association expressed gratitude for the community's advocacy. Sen. Lee acknowledged pressures from constituents and concerns about misinformation regarding his bill but stated that due to budget reconciliation limitations, he could not ensure land sales would only benefit American families. He expressed frustration over perceived government land mismanagement but remains committed to addressing land use issues effectively.
Thanks to broad bipartisan outreach from the outdoor community, public land sell offs were removed yet again from budget reconciliation last night.
Over the past several weeks, I've spent a lot of time listening to members of the community, local leaders, and stakeholders across the country.
Because of the strict constraints of the budget reconciliation process, I was unable to secure clear, enforceable safeguards to guarantee that these lands would be sold only to American families.
I continue to believe the federal government owns far too much land-land it is mismanaging and in many cases ruining for the next generation.
