Biniam Girmay, a prominent cyclist with Intermarché-Wanty, has chosen to prioritize family over racing by returning to Eritrea for the birth of his second child. Despite being expected to compete in major early-season races like Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, he showed commitment to his family. The team expressed support for Girmay's decision, acknowledging the significance of this personal milestone. He plans to return for Milan-San Remo and pursue his goals of victory in iconic races like the Tour of Flanders.
"Congratulations to Biniam Girmay and Saliem for the birth of their second child," the Intermarché-Wanty team announced after reports of Girmay's absence began to emerge in Belgium.
"I am so happy to become a father for the second time," he said in a brief statement issued by Intermarché-Wanty.
"I will be back in Europe to chase my dream of winning a first monument, with Milan-San Remo, E3 Harelbeke, Gent-Wevelgem and Tour of Flanders on my program," Girmay said.
