""Behind every race number, there's a human being and sadly it is still widely accepted that a rider can lose everything in a fraction of a second due to a crash. What helmets represented 20 years ago, we think Airbag can represent today, but now, we're looking beyond the head, we need to protect as much of the body as we can.""
""The current version is in final validation ahead of potential race deployment. It has a total weight of about 700 grams, making it significantly lighter than airbag systems worn in MotoGP.""
A new airbag system has been developed for road cyclists, integrated into a skinsuit by Van Rysel and In&motion. This system is currently being tested on professional riders and is expected to be available to consumers within two years. Weighing about 700 grams, it is lighter than existing MotoGP airbag systems and deploys in 60 milliseconds upon detecting an impact. The skinsuit is designed to be aerodynamic and includes abrasion-resistant materials to reduce injuries. Future developments aim to provide more extensive protection for cyclists.
