Lotte Kopecky, the World Champion, faced challenges during the Dwars door Vlaanderen race but demonstrated resilience. After falling back from a leading group due to a difficult patch, she cooperated with her teammate Mischa Bredewold to regroup and re-enter the competition. Despite her earlier struggles, Kopecky managed to secure a second-place finish, showcasing her determination and ability to perform under pressure. Her tactical call for a lead-out from Bredewold significantly aided her sprint towards the finish, illustrating teamwork's vital role in cycling races.
I don't know what happened. I had a very strange feeling. A really tough moment. I'm not exactly sure what caused it. The legs just weren't there.
Luckily, afterwards Mischa Bredewold and I were able to join forces and make it back to the front group. After that, I just tried to get the most out of the race.
How I could still sprint for second place despite not having the best feeling? Once you smell the finish line, you just go all in for the highest achievable.
Mischa was ahead of me in the group, I called her name and she immediately knew what to do. She gave me a good lead-out.
