40 bike laps around the sun: Valencia Cyclery turns 40
Briefly

Paul Olszewski transitioned from social work to opening Valencia Cyclery in San Francisco in 1985, capitalizing on a cycling boom and the need for affordable transportation among local immigrants. Funded by Lloyd Stephenson, Olszewski found a prime location in the Mission district and quickly repaid his investment. With a background in cycling and experience in the area, Olszewski successfully expanded the shop and enhanced its offerings within just a few years, showcasing his deep understanding of the community's needs.
"Bicycles had supported him for years - first as an undergraduate at Kent State University, then while getting his masters at San Francisco State University..."
"Olszewski had lived in Guatemala during a stint in the Peace Corps, so he had the language skills and cultural competency to work with this new customer base."
