Tyondai Braxton, formerly of Battles, is performing an intimate show with collaborator Ben Vida at D.C.'s Rhizome as part of the Seventh Stanine Festival. Braxton describes their upcoming performance as an 'activated drone show' using electronic instruments, emphasizing the intimacy of the venue compared to his previous larger gigs. The festival, which will include several notable artists, aims to feature acclaimed musicians in smaller spaces to enhance audience experience. Organizer Matthew Byars, also a schoolteacher, highlights the goal of bringing larger draws into intimate settings for a unique music experience.
This year, we decided to consciously raise the bar a little bit in terms of having people we really, really admire who are more national, if not international, in recognition.
One of my goals is to have disproportionately large draws playing in a small space. These are people who can fill much larger rooms, but I want to have them in these very intimate locations.
