After decades as friends, musicians Benedikt Merz and David Hanni formed Dadalus & Bikarus, merging krautrock, punk, and big beat influences in their psychedelic sound. Their second album, 'Off the Shelf', showcases their live performance energy with tracks designed to build sonic tension. Each piece plays with repetition and intricate instrumentals, notably 'Erebros' with its driving rhythms and 'Kill Your Feed' featuring feedback-laden grooves. The album also includes atmospheric moments and disquieting interludes, reflecting their journey and shared creative vision over the years.
Merz's vocals are similarly enticing, channelling Peter Murphy's moody drawl at points, and gruff EBM-style yelps at others, creating an intriguing vocal dynamic.
Their second album, Off the Shelf, captures the obsessive energy of those early nocturnal experiments, which they've since built a reputation for in their live shows.
