Lander: NYC is paying reasonable hotel prices for asylum-seekers
Briefly

DHS paid an average of $156 per day per hotel room, which is in line with the cost of comparable hotels, the analysis found.
The daily total cost of DHS hotel shelters plus services - $332 - is substantially lower than the cost of the emergency shelter and services contracted by other city agencies, estimated to be $404.
Currently, approximately 65,000 asylum seekers live in the emergency shelter system, which also includes large tents, repurposed office, warehouse and industrial spaces, religious institutions and other public buildings.
An estimated 77% of the asylum-seekers are sheltered in roughly 15,750 rooms across 157 hotels, around 11.5% of the overall hotel inventory.
