"Bochum will protest to the German football association after their goalkeeper Patrick Drewes was hit by a lighter during their Bundesliga match against Union Berlin, resulting in a chaotic finish and an appeal on Monday."
"In our opinion, the game should have been abandoned. We finished the match under protest and will lodge an appeal on Monday," said Bochum's managing director, Ilja Kaenzig.
"With the game level at 1-1, the 31-year-old Drewes fell to the ground after being struck by a lighter thrown from the crowd, raising serious concerns over player safety in the Bundesliga."
"The referee confirmed the agreement between both teams not to attack in the final minutes of the match, a decision made in response to the incident involving Drewes."
