
A Syrian national identified as Khalaf A. was arrested in Berlin as an alleged accessory to attempted murder and bodily harm related to a stabbing at the Holocaust Memorial on Feb. 21, 2025. Federal prosecutors said he spent the afternoon before the attack with Wassim Al M., the man later convicted for attempted murder and attempted membership in a foreign terrorist organization. Prosecutors said Khalaf A. encouraged Al M. to carry out his plan. Wassim Al M. was convicted in March and sentenced to 13 years in prison. The Berlin district court found he traveled from Leipzig to Berlin to carry out an attack in the name of the Islamic State group, choosing the Holocaust Memorial because he believed he would find people of Jewish faith there.
