'He will be missed forever' - Cheers star George Wendt dies aged 76
Briefly

George Wendt passed away peacefully at home, as confirmed by his family. Best known for his role as Norm Peterson in 'Cheers', Wendt received six consecutive Emmy nominations from 1984-89. 'Cheers' was a sitcom about a Boston bar, featuring a talented cast and winning 28 out of 117 Emmy nominations. Before 'Cheers', Wendt had a background in improv with Second City. Post-'Cheers', he starred in 'The George Wendt Show', guest appeared on various TV shows, and participated in 'The Masked Singer'. His family remembers him as a dedicated family man.
George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him. He will be missed forever.
My agent said, 'It's a small role, honey. It's one line. Actually, it's one word'. The word was 'beer'. I was having a hard time believing I was right for the role.
He found steady work onstage: Wendt slipped on Edna Turnblad's housecoat in Broadway's Hairspray beginning in 2007, and was in the Tony Award-winning play Art.
Cheers was centred on lovable losers in a Boston bar and starred Ted Danson, Shelley Long, and Kelsey Grammer, winning 28 Emmy Awards.
