Drunk driver who killed siblings, 8 and 4, at birthday party tells grief-stricken family she'd 'appreciate' forgiveness as she learns fate
Briefly

Marshella Chidester, 67, was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison for her DUI-related crash that killed siblings Alanah and Zayn Phillips at a birthday party. With a blood-alcohol level exceeding the legal limit, Chidester drove her SUV through a venue filled with children, resulting in not only the tragic deaths of the young siblings but also serious injuries to numerous others. During the court proceedings, the children’s mother expressed immense grief, while Chidester, convicted of second-degree murder, expressed sorrow and asked the family for forgiveness, claiming her actions were influenced by a leg injury and limited alcohol consumption.
"The grief has been unbearable," Mariah Dodds, the devastated mother, told the court at sentencing. "She took everything in my life and destroyed it."
"I've asked the Lord to forgive me," Chidester said during her feeble plea for mercy. "And I ask you to at least look into your heart and at some point, if you can possibly forgive me, I would appreciate that so much."
