Manuel Neuer has been recalled from international retirement to join Germany’s 26-man World Cup squad for the 2026 tournament. The 40-year-old goalkeeper, who retired from international duty in 2024, will play ahead of Oliver Baumann and is expected to be Germany’s number one. Julian Nagelsmann praised Neuer’s quality, aura, and ability to influence matches and create special moments. Joshua Kimmich retains the captaincy, while Leroy Sane remains in the squad despite mixed club statistics. Matthias Ginter misses out, with Malick Thiaw preferred in central defense. Jonas Urbig is not selected but will travel to support training, and Jamal Musiala returns after recovering from a broken ankle. The squad includes a strong Premier League presence in attack.
"Everyone knows the aura and quality Manu has, what he brings to a team,"
