FC Bayern will have to do without captain Manuel Neuer for the time being . The goalkeeper suffered a torn muscle fiber in his right hamstring during Sunday's Bundesliga home game against 1. FSV Mainz 05. This was the result of an examination by FC Bayern's medical department. At nearly forty years old, Neuer has played almost every single game in the Bundesliga and Champions League this season.

The club's bosses would even 'hand him the pen' to sign the contract with considerably more conviction than last time. For most it would be a grand, monumental, once-in-a-lifetime achievement. For him, it was literally just Tuesday. The week before, he had become the oldest Bayern player to play in the UCL (and, one supposes, he broke what was now his own record again by 7 days against Pafos).
