Following a notable performance against Borussia Dortmund, Carro acknowledged Wirtz's need to decide his path, while sporting director Simon Rolfes reaffirmed the club's commitment to retaining him, stating Leverkusen should be seen as the right place for Wirtz to continue developing his talent.
Carro stated, "Florian Wirtz is at a crossroads; itâs now a 50-50 chance of whether he stays or goes this summer, reflecting considerable changes in our stance."
