Joshua Kimmich has been appointed as the new captain of the German national team, joined by vice-captain Antonio Rüdiger and third captain Kai Havertz.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann expressed confidence in the new leadership, stating, "I think we have a good mix when it comes to this role." He emphasized that the selections reflect eagerness and capability from the players.
Nagelsmann acknowledged the emotional decision behind the retirement of four key players and mentioned previous discussions with them, stating, "...they had thought about what was right. But I had very good discussions with them."
The new leadership council will include Kimmich and four other players, with a clear intention to incorporate one of the captains into the strategic team discussions.
