Manuel Neuer will return to the German national team and take part in the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Bayern Munich midfielder and national team captain Joshua Kimmich expressed strong happiness about Neuer’s involvement, noting their long partnership and the confidence the team has in the goalkeeper. Kimmich also received the captain’s armband after İlkay Gündoğan retired from international football in 2024, meaning he will captain Neuer for the first time. Kimmich joked that Neuer needs to get his act together and said he would tell him immediately. Neuer is currently recovering from a muscular injury sustained during Bayern’s final Bundesliga match of the season against 1. FC Köln and is working to be ready for the tournament.
"“I'm extremely happy about that. We've been playing together for eleven years now. Everyone knows who we have back there in goal. That's why I'm so pleased that he'll be involved,” declared Kimmich."
"“Yes, that's true. Now he really needs to get his act together. I hadn't even thought about that yet. I'll tell him right away,” said Kimmich with a laugh."
"Neuer, on his part, is currently working through a muscular injury that he picked up during Bayern's last Bundesliga match of the season against 1. FC Köln, and will try everything in his hands to be ready for the international tournament, which starts in around two weeks time."
