Newcastle United agreed a £69.3 million sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona after talks with the La Liga club. Newcastle received two bids on Wednesday, one from Barcelona and one from Bayern Munich. Bayern left the room after failing to match Barcelona’s offer. Gordon had already said goodbye to teammates and coaching staff and will double his weekly wage to around £300,000. He will travel to Spain to complete a medical and formalities before being presented as Barcelona’s next major star. Barcelona’s structured offer is believed to be worth over €80 million with add-ons, while Bayern’s bid was slightly lower. The deal is expected to benefit Newcastle financially and provides Barcelona with a new attacker for Hansi Flick.
"Newcastle United have agreed a £69.3million sale with Barcelona for Anthony Gordon after a day of talks with the La Liga giants. The Magpies actually received TWO bids today from both Barca and Bayern Munich, but the German side left the room after failing to match the Nou Camp side's offer. Gordon had already said goodbye to his team-mates and coaching staff and will now double his weekly wage to around £300,000 per week."
"He will head to Spain to complete a medical and the usual formalities before later being presented as Barca's next big star. It is believed that a structured offer from Barcelona is worth more than €80m (£69.3m) with add-ons while Bayern bid slightly less. The Bundesliga giants are well known for leaving the room once they feel they aren't getting value for money."
"That was the case last summer when Bayern dropped out of the hunt for Nick Woltemade at £69million and he signed for the Magpies instead and it has proved to be the same again for a big sale for Newcastle. It seems like a very advantageous deal for Gordon and likely helps Newcastle financially as well. FC Barcelona will get a much needed new attacker for Hansi Flick and Bayern Munich will go back to its list of options for the summer transfer window."
