Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen acknowledged the ongoing situation in Rwanda, sending representatives to monitor it as fans voice strong opposition to the clubâs sponsorship deal linked to Rwanda. The deal has come under scrutiny after DRC's Foreign Minister raised concerns about Rwanda's support for the M23 rebel group, which has committed serious human rights violations. Despite Dreesen's initial engagement, fan backlash has intensified, highlighting a perceived hypocrisy regarding the club's values and political stance amidst brutal realities in the region.
Those were the words of Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen to DW at the beginning of February. There has been no word since.
M23 has been complicit in and responsible for committing serious violations of international law involving the targeting of women and children in situations of armed conflict in the DRC.
