Rafinha, at the age of 39, announced his retirement from professional football via an Instagram post. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunities football provided, including championships and lifelong friendships. His journey began in the Gremio youth academy, leading to stints at Coritiba, Schalke 04, Bayern Munich, and Flamengo, among others. Rafinha thanked various clubs and individuals who played vital roles in his career. He emphasized that while he is ending his playing career, his love for soccer will always remain as he transitions to a new chapter in life.
Today is the final whistle on the pitch for me. It's time to officially say goodbye to the football field, and I do so with a calm heart and full of gratitude.
Football has given me everything, it took me to Germany, made me champion of the Champions League, the Libertadores, the Brasileirão... introduced me to incredible people and allowed me to live what has always been my biggest dream.
I’m grateful to (Coritiba), who opened their doors at the beginning. To (Schalke 04), who believed in a boy from Brazil. To (Bayern), which was my home for so many years and where I won everything in soccer.
Today I end a cycle as a player. But the love of soccer is eternal. A new chapter begins in my life: off the pitch.
