The Volta a Catalunya presents an opportunity for GC specialists as key competitors, including reigning champion Pogačar and Vingegaard, are missing due to intentional focus and injury. This absence has created a vacuum which Mikel Landa believes allows for a more aggressive race. He anticipates a fierce competition between Roglič and Ayuso, as the lack of dominant figures may lead to an unpredictable outcome, differing from previous years where top riders influenced tactics and outcomes significantly.
Landa mentioned, "When they [Vingegaard and Pogačar] are there, people settle for second or are waiting for them to break open the race and for them to start attacking," indicating that their absence will create a different dynamic in the race.
Landa expressed, "It'll be a much more open race without them, probably there'll be a nice fight between [Primoz] Roglič and [Juan] Ayuso," hinting at the competitive atmosphere expected in their absence.
