The mystery of the nameless girl found dead in a Spanish border town
Briefly

On 4 September 1990, a girl was found dead in Portbou, Spain, hanging from a tree. With only 2,000 residents, the small town was shaken by the violent apparition. Her identity remained unknown, triggering an investigation by the local Guardia Civil, led by Enrique Gomez. Carles Cereijo, an 18-year-old reporter, vividly recalled his shock at the scene, noting that no one recognized the girl. Despite appearing to be a suicide, the circumstances, including how she managed the act without leaving evidence, raised numerous questions that went unanswered.
"I managed to get half a metre away and thought, She's my age!" Carles Cereijo, an 18-year-old reporter, described his first experience witnessing a dead body.
"It looked very much like a suicide, but there were many questions...who was she? Nobody in town recognised her." The uncertainty surrounding the girl's identity and death loomed large.
