The deadly blaze had broken out in a storage room of a five-storey building in the town, located 80 kilometres north of Barcelona in the Osona area."
"Residents had alerted officials about the fire shortly after 9:00pm local time on Monday evening after they noticed smoke in the stairwell. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found that the building had already been completely evacuated. Though emergency services including firefighters and ambulances responded quickly and the blaze was contained, it was too late to save the five victims."
"According to reports, none of the deceased lived in the building. The grandfather of one of the victims told local news outlet La Vanguardia that the youths used the storage room as a place to meet, as it had reportedly been converted into a living space. The victims were reportedly unable to escape the storage area, which is located on the upper floor of the building, though the reason is still under investigation by the Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan police."
