"One of our volunteers came to the office to let us know that this guy had turned up expecting to see FC Barcelona. His English wasn't great, but from what we could gather, he'd come from London. My guess is he'd put St James' Park in his phone and then just followed the directions from there. He was pretty gutted and a bit embarrassed. So, we sorted him out a ticket and he got to watch a game."
A Barcelona supporter intended to watch his team play Newcastle at St James' Park but ended up at Exeter City's stadium of the same name, located 367 miles away in Devon. The fan, who traveled from London, apparently used GPS navigation that directed him to the wrong venue. Exeter City staff discovered his mistake at the turnstiles and, rather than turn him away, provided him with a ticket to watch Exeter's League One match against Lincoln City. The visitor was initially embarrassed but appreciated the gesture. Meanwhile, Barcelona drew 1-1 with Newcastle in their Champions League round-of-16 first leg, with Barcelona scoring a last-gasp penalty after Newcastle's Harvey Barnes had opened the scoring.
