New areas at Enchanted Rock could open as soon as this fall after park more than doubles in size - Austin Monitor
Briefly

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area has made a significant expansion, adding 3,073 acres to its land, which more than doubles its previous size. This expansion comes partially as a response to increased visitor numbers, particularly following the pandemic, which has enhanced public interest in outdoor activities. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department acquired the additional acreage for $43 million, funded by the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund, established to support land acquisition for parks. The area is a cherished destination for many Texans, known for its scenic views and tranquil atmosphere.
There's a lot of generational history. Being on top of the granite dome is just really calming and peaceful for a lot of people and it holds a lot of memories.
The pandemic had a really positive impact on people wanting to get outdoors... and those numbers are still high because of that.
