Adam Haynes, a city Planning Commission member, filed a complaint alleging that Mike Siegel reported larger contributions than city regulations allow. This allegation arose from a campaign finance report that indicated a $900 contribution from a woman and another contribution from a man who incorrectly seemed to be her spouse. However, the city clerk's records revealed Siegel corrected this report, disclosing three legitimate contributions, thus eliminating any apparent violation of contribution limits.
In his ethics complaint, Haynes also pointed out that the nonprofit AURA for Austin, which has been supporting Siegel's campaign through activities like blockwalking and emailing, has not documented its expenditures. Haynes accuses AURA of not filing any reports, which raises questions about campaign finance transparency. Additionally, he claims that in Siegel's latest campaign finance report, AURA for Austin wasn't acknowledged as a contributor, which he argues violates city regulations regarding campaign contributions.
