During a game at Steinbrenner Field, Chandler Simpson's ground ball was initially ruled an error but later corrected to a hit, leading to Max Fried losing a no-hitter. Manager Aaron Boone expressed frustration about how official scoring varies by stadium, indicating a trend towards leniency in calling hits. He noted the discrepancies between Yankee Stadium and other venues, where a close play might generate a hit instead of an error, hinting at the subjective nature of officiating in baseball.
The reality is it was a hit," manager Aaron Boone said afterwards of Simpson's grounder.
I scratch my head at the official scorers nightly," Boone said. "I mean, they throw an error up on the board at Yankee Stadium and then we go these other places and they can fire up a hit with the best of them.
It's a different game in every other park, it really is."
There has been much more leniency around the league in recent years, with plenty of stadiums eager to call something a hit rather than an error on anything close to a toss-up play.
